Online Filing of LLC Annual Report
Owners of active limited liability companies
must file the LLC Annual Report between January 1 and April 1. Beginning in January 2005, owners may file online using
West Virginia’s online business exchange, Business for West Virginia.
The Secretary of State is a partner in the Business4WV project, and with the LLC Annual Report, is the first to add
an online filing service for active businesses.
The Business4WV site currently provides new business registration across all four core business registration agencies, including the
Secretary of State, State Tax Department, Unemployment Compensation and Worker’s Compensation. Additional online filings
are being developed to provide improved service to people doing business in West Virginia.
How to File Online
Follow these steps to prepare for online filing:
1. Open the site from this link --
www.business4wv.com -- to start.
2. Register for your free user account, which will create your own
personal filing cabinet, a secure area where you can create filings and track the status of filings.
3. When you receive your annual report form in the mail, log in
at www.business4WV.com using your new user name and password. A successful login will take you to your filing cabinet.
4. Click File LLC Annual Report from the 'My Filing Cabinet' section
of the menu.
5. Use the search to locate your company name. NOTE: It is better to
enter only a key word or two and then select from the results than to type the entire name.
6. Enter the security PIN that was provided on the form mailed to you.
If the PIN matches, your company record will be returned and you may complete the filing. If the match fails on three tries, you
will not be able to continue until a period of time has passed. (This is a security feature to protect your record.)
7. Choose whether you wish to file the annual report or terminate the company.
8. If you are
filing an annual report, confirm or update your company
information. If you are filing a termination, select the termination date. Next, follow the instructions to check out, and print a completed
report for your records.
9. If you wish to track the status of the filing, return to the site, log in and click
'Completed Registrations'. If your filing has been approved by the Secretary of State, it will appear there. If it does not
appear, click 'Submitted Registrations' to check the status.
NOTE: After you have submitted the annual report or termination, at
www.business4wv.com, the PIN number is deactivated so no
other person may access the company record for filing. If the Secretary of State receives a paper filing and payment and updates the record
internally, the PIN will then be deactivated. This prevents duplicate attempts to file the annual report.
