Applying for Combined Individual
and Firm Licenses for Private Investigations
If the qualifying agent
for a firm desires to have both the individual private investigator license and
the firm license, the two processes can be done at the same time.
Remember, it is not required unless the qualifying agent will be conducting
private investigation business separate from the licensed firm. Follow
these steps:
1 Complete the
application steps set out in "Applying for a Private Investigative Firm
License." All of the required documentation for the qualifying
agent is the same as for an individual license. See Step #3 below for
the correct fees.
2 Specify in a cover
letter that you are applying for an individual license for the qualifying
agent
in addition to the firm license.
3 Pay the appropriate
fees calculated from the information below. Choose the license amount
for each license from the appropriate category. For example, if the firm
is a West Virginia company but the individual applicant is a resident of
another state, you will pay the in-state firm fee and the out-of-state
individual fee.

If the qualifying agent
for a firm desires to have both the individual security guard license and
the firm license, the two processes can be done at the same time.
Remember, it is not required unless the qualifying agent will be conducting
security guard business separate from the licensed firm. Follow

Security Guard Firm License." All of the required documentation for
the qualifying
agent is the same as for an individual license. See Step #3 below for

letter that you are applying for an individual license for the qualifying
agent
in addition to the firm license.

Applying for Combined Individual Private Investigator and
Security Guard Licenses
An individual who is qualified for a private
investigator license is automatically qualified for a security guard
license. Follow these steps:
1 Complete the
application steps set out in "Applying for an
Individual Private Investigator License." All of the required documentation
is the same as for an individual private investigator license. See Step #3 below for
the correct fees.
2 Specify in a cover
letter that you are applying for a combined individual private investigator and security
guard license.

Pay the appropriate fee,
depending on whether you are a resident of West Virginia or of another state.
West Virginia Resident:
$ 100 Private investigator license
$ 100 Security guard license
$ 50 Non-refundable processing fee
$ 250 Total fee for combined individual licenses
Out-of-State Resident:
$ 500 Private investigator
license
$ 500 Security guard license
$ 50 Non-refundable processing fee
$1,050 Total fee for combined individual licenses
Applying for Combined Private Investigative and
Security Guard Firm Licenses
An individual who is qualified for a private
investigator license is automatically qualified for a security guard
license. That qualifying agent can therefore apply for a combined
private investigative and security guard firm. Follow these steps:
1 Complete the
application steps set out in "Applying for a Private Investigative Firm
License." All of the required documentation for the qualifying
agent is the same as for an individual private investigator license. A
person who is qualifies only as a security guard cannot serve as the
qualifying agent for a combined investigative and guard firm license. See Step #3 below for
the correct fees.
2 Specify in a cover
letter that you are applying for a combined private investigative and security
guard firm license.
3 Pay the appropriate fee,
depending on whether your firm is a West Virginia company or an out-of-state
company.
West Virginia Company:
$ 200 Private investigative firm
license
$ 200 Security guard firm license
$ 50 Non-refundable processing fee
$ 450 Total fee for combined firm licenses
Out-of-State Company:
$ 500 Private investigative firm
license
$ 500 Security guard firm license
$ 50 Non-refundable processing fee
$1,050 Total fee for combined firm licenses
4 Individual private investigator
and security guard licenses for the qualifying agent could be added by
specifying the desired licenses and paying the additional individual license
fees.
Renewing Combined
Licenses
Complete the steps in "Renewing
a Private Investigator License" or "Renewing
a Private Investigative Firm License" and submit the fees for the
particular combination shown above.
